Core Values, Culture, and Why It's All Important
Before we dive into how we implement our core values at Force Jiu-Jitsu and the difference it's made in our members, it's important to first understand what exactly those values are and what they mean.
Our six Core Values that are implemented in our every day training
1 Black Belt Mentality
2 Force First
3 Be Your Own Hero
4 Action Taker
5 Consistent
6 Pull The Trigger
Black Belt Mentality
What is a black belt mentality? When you think of someone who is a black belt, what comes to your mind? Most of us immediately picture someone who is at peak level skill in their martial art, but how did they get there? We then imagine the years, dedication, ambition, and countless hours they must have put into it before reaching the holy grail of belts: black. Truth be told, you wouldn’t be wrong in that assumption, yet these high achieving black belts understand the value in humility or else the competition will once again humble them real quick. So a value at the heart of this beautiful culture we thrive on is having a black belt mentality, manifesting greatness in each of our members through virtues a “black belt” should possess. This value exemplifies taking ownership, listening to understand rather than reply, and maintaining humbleness.
Force First
This one’s pretty simple. Force comes first when our members step through the doors. If everyone isn’t putting in their fair share of respecting the gym and all our members, the cleanliness and environment won’t stay maintained. We want a world class environment from fresh sanitary mats to a cultural environment that thrives on togetherness.
Be Your Own Hero
Whether you're a DC, Marvel, or Luke Skywalker fan, we all have a hero, and as cliché as it may sound, we want our members to be their own hero. Our goal here is for them to overcome their own struggles, or pains, and accomplish goals they’ve set for themselves, and in doing so take enough pride in their own accomplishments to look at themselves in a different light.
Action Taker
When one of our members sees a problem, we want them to be able to take the task head-on and fix it. Rather than passing the responsibility to someone else, the goal here is for members to internalize courage so much that they feel confident enough in their own ability to take ownership for an issue and problem solve, even in our littlest Force goers.
Consistent
Like the age old saying, “consistency is key,” it really is! Smaller wins will occur through consistency and those smaller wins will then add up to big wins over time.
Pull The Trigger
Don’t jump the gun, we’re not being literal here! This one’s about negating objections. When you look for an objection or an excuse, you’ll find one, but if you instead search for a solution to the problem, you’ll find one of those too! Once that solution has been addressed, we encourage members to fearlessly go for it!
